Like many of you, I’ve been a Verizon customer since I bought my first cell phone.

We’ve had several members of the military reach out to us recently, asking if Verizon currently has a military discount.

I’m happy to report that they indeed do!

So what exactly does the Verizon military discount offer?

In short, Verizon offers 2 different types of discounts:

1. Phone military plan: 15% off eligible shared plans, and 25% off phone accessories.

Verizon Wireless is the largest communications service provider in the United States.

It services over 150 million customers.

Along with AT&T it is often regarded as one of the best in terms of speed, performance, and reliability.

Does Verizon feature a discount for military personnel?

Verizon Wireless military discount currently extends to both cellphone plans as well as Fios.

The Verizon military plans include three different discounts, as well as a Verizon military discount on internet, cable, and home phone lines (if applicable).

The discounts extend to not only active duty members, but also veterans.

Additionally, families of U.S. Armed Forces members have the opportunity to benefit from Verizon military discount savings as well.

The Verizon Wireless military discount on cellphone plans is fairly good.

All in all there are three different options to select from when it comes to savings:

  • As low as $30 per line per month with 4 lines when the primary account holder is U.S. Military on unlimited plans.
  • Save 15 percent a month on eligible phone plans.
  • Save 25 percent on select phone accessories.

Let’s start first with the Verizon Military plans.

The plans for military are the same as the ones offered for civilians only they pay more per month.

The Verizon Go Unlimited and Verizon Beyond Unlimited plans are their two most popular:

Verizon Do More Unlimited

The Verizon Go Unlimited plan currently starts at $45 per line for four lines. It features unlimited talk, text, and data on one of the nation’s most reliable networks.

The rate is only available when the account is enrolled in AutoPay.

The rate also does not reflect taxes and additional fees.

Military personnel receive an additional discount on top of the standard rate (more details, below).

The plan features:

  • Unlimited 4G LTE data
  • Unlimited talk and text
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot (600 Kbps)
  • Unlimited talk and text in Mexico and Canada
  • DVD quality streaming at 480p
  • Free trial of Apple Music for 6 months
  • Verizon Up Rewards
  • 500 GB of Verizon Cloud storage

Verizon Get More Unlimited

The Verizon Beyond Unlimited plan is a slightly enhanced version of the Go plan. It is dedicated to people that stream a lot of content. Lines start at $55 when four lines are added.

The rate is only available for AutoPay subscriptions. Furthermore, it does not reflect all taxes and additional monthly fees.

Military personnel receive an additional discount on top of the standard rate (more details, below).

The plan features:

  • Unlimited talk, text, and data
  • Talk, text, and data in Canada and Mexico
  • Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband Data
  • Unlimited 4K HD streaming
  • Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband Hotspot
  • Premium Unlimited 4G LTE Data (22 GB)
  • HD quality streaming at 720p
  • Apple Music subscription
  • Verizon Up Rewards
  • 500 GB of Verizon Cloud storage 

In addition to the Verizon Go Unlimited and Verizon Beyond Unlimited options the wireless carrier has three other unlimited plans: Verizon Start Unlimited, Verizon Play More Unlimited, and Verizon Just Kids plans.

Verizon Military Plans (Internet, TV, Home Phone)

Verizon features internet, TV, and home phone through Fios. The network is 100 percent fiber-optic with extremely high speeds.

There is a Verizon Fios military discount, but before we get into savings let’s examine the features of the plan.

The current package rate for Fios is $79.99 and it includes high speed Fios Gigabit wireless internet, TV, home phone.

When you sign up for a new account you are locked at that price for at least two years.

Fios TV is driven by fiber-optic speeds. The TV signal is reportedly reliable and produces a clear live TV signal.

In addition to hundreds of channels, subscriptions are also treated to thousands of Fios On Demand titles. The subscription also includes premium movie channels and streaming via the Fios TV app.

Fios Internet provides super fast and reliable speeds. Once again it is powered by fiber optics.

Fios Internet features upload and download speeds of up to 940 Mbps. It works well for families with multiple users that previously were clogged down by a DSL provider.

Lastly, Fios Digital Voice offers home network calling. The 100 percent fiber-optic driven network has clear calls and reliability.

Calling features include voicemail to email integration and call forwarding. Both Unlimited and per minute plans are available.

Please note the listed promo rate is only available with a two year contract. The agreement also stipulates that you must enroll in Autopay in order to receive the deal.

Extra charges for taxes and fees, as well as equipment charges may exist.

Pricing for Service Members

In addition to promotional offers featured for everyone, Verizon has an extra discount exclusive to U.S. Military.

The Verizon military discount is available to active duty, cadets, veterans, and eligible family members.

There are different amounts of savings for Verizon wireless plans based on the number of lines for military personnel.

These include:

  • $10 monthly discount for one phone line.
  • $25 monthly discount for two or three phone lines.
  • $20 monthly discount for four or more phone lines.

These savings are only offered on Unlimited phone plans like Go Unlimited or Beyond Unlimited.

Also note that if you have been with Verizon for awhile you were previously offered a default $15 discount for military. You can earn the additional savings by switching to a mix and match plan.

If you do not wish to have an unlimited plan you can receive a 15 percent discount by enrolling in a new standard plan, as long as the fee is $34.99 or higher.

In addition to savings on plans, military personnel and family members are also treated to 25 percent savings on select phone accessories when you order online 10 percent in store. 

The Verizon Fios military discount is slightly different. If you wish to bundle TV, wireless internet, and home phone you can receive even more savings through Verizon.

The following deals apply for active duty and veterans:

  • $120 off per year for Fios Triple Play.
  • $60 off per year for Fios Double Play (internet and either TV or home phone).

Depending on the package you can save an extra $60 to $120 per year for having TV, internet, and/or home phone with Verizon.

Verizon Eligibility Requirements

The variety of Verizon military discounts are fairly good. It is possible to save some significant money with Verizon, especially if you include the rest of your family lines on the same plan.

Even more savings apply if you also go with their wireless internet, TV, and home phone Fios Triple Play package.

However, in order to receive these quality savings you need to qualify.

Verizon has eligibility standards in order to ensure that the primary account holder is active duty or former U.S. Military.

Verizon Wireless provides ALL of its military discounts for both active duty and former service members. It is different from some companies that may only reserve military discounts to active duty members.

Families are also eligible for the savings so long as the primary account holder is current or former U.S. Military.

Verizon supports the following branches of the U.S. Armed Forces:

  • Air Force
  • Army
  • Coast Guard
  • Marines
  • National Guard
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration commissioned officers
  • United States Public Health Service commissioned officers
  • All Military reserves
  • Veterans of all branches of the U.S. Military

In order to receive any Verizon Wireless military discount you will need to verify that you served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

It involves submitting some type of proof such as:

  • Military pay stub (LES)
  • DD Form 214
  • Veteran’s ID card
  • Military Retiree Account Statement

You can verify your military eligibility by visiting a store in person with the necessary documentation, or online.

Other Ways Verizon Supports the U.S. Military

In addition to the various Verizon military discounts the company also supports the U.S. Armed Forces in various other ways.

Verizon supports the Wounded Warrior Project. The charity offers a variety of programs for veterans as well as services and events. The nonprofit has served over 70,000 veterans.

It regularly partners with the American Red Cross and Resounding Joy. Its year-long Track program has helped veterans transition from college to the workplace.

Verizon also is committed to hiring veterans. The company reports that it has over 11,000 individuals employed today that are military vets.

It has actually been named one of the Top 10 Military Employers by Military Time.

The company also won the 2018 Military Friendly Award for its dedication to hiring U.S. veterans.

Verizon also supports partnerships with Hiring Our Heroes, Hirepurpose, and Military Spouse Employment Partnership.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the military discount for Verizon customers…

How much money can I save by switching to Verizon Wireless?

Verizon has a lot of savings for military personnel and their families. Like most wireless carriers you serve to get the most savings by adding as many lines as possible.

The single line does offer $10 per month in savings compared to what civilians pay for the same Unlimited plan.

However, you stand to save $40 or more per month by adding all of your family’s lines as well. The 15 percent monthly savings on all other wireless plans is decent.

T-Mobile may have the best military plan in terms of savings yet Verizon is not too far behind.

It also is questionably not as strong as AT&T. The other competing wireless carrier provides a 25 percent discount for military personnel and veterans.

Meanwhile, Sprint features a 50 percent discount on family lines.

T-Mobile endorses 20 percent off on one line and 50 percent off for each additional line.

Why do I need to validate my military service?

In order to receive the Verizon Wireless military discount the company asks that you submit verification.

There are a number of acceptable documents that the company will recognize as acceptable forms of ID.

Furthermore, in order to receive the Verizon veterans military discount your name needs to serve as the primary account holder.

If someone else, such as your wife, is the primary account holder Verizon will not recognize it for military savings.

The verification is done to confirm eligibility. You may periodically receive a notice from Verizon requesting that you once again validate military status.

Are the savings applied automatically to my account?

Yes. Once the account is confirmed as verifiable military the discounts are applied automatically. You should double check your bill at first to make sure Verizon is accurately deducting the amount promised.

What if my status changes in the U.S. Military?

As long as you verify that you were in the military it does not matter whether you are active duty, retired, or a veteran.

Verizon recognizes all three in terms of their military discount. You do not need to do anything if your service status changes.

Conclusion

There is plenty to like about the Verizon military discount. You can start saving money on a single line unlimited plan, receive even more savings by adding all your family lines, and get extra discounts on phone accessories.

If you are looking to switch your TV, wireless internet, or home phone provider you can also save more money each year by bundling on two or three of them through Verizon.

The Verizon discount for veterans is the same as the one offered for active duty so there is no need to worry about changing status either. The savings will last for as long as you are a Verizon customer.
