What Is The Official TurboTax Military Discount?
TurboTax provides free or discounted rates to all members of the military. The rates vary by package and by the user’s rank, so we will look into them in detail below.
For service members with a rank between E1 and E5, Federal filing and State filing are free.
These ranks can file with either the normal Free Edition provided by TurboTax, or the Deluxe version at no additional cost.
Service members with ranks between E1 and E5 can also receive a discount of $5 (or more) off on other programs, including the Premier, Self-Employed, or TurboTax Live programs.
These other programs include additional features, such as live help from CPA’s, so even though they are not free they may be worth purchasing at the discounted rate.
Service members who hold a rank of E6 or higher can take advantage of a $5 discount (or more) off any TurboTax federal product.
They cannot, however, use the free Deluxe version like the lower ranks can.
To use the TurboTax military discount, simply input your W2’s into the TurboTax system.
When you save your military W2, your rank will be noted and your military discount will be automatically applied.
You may want to check and make sure the discount is applied to your total bill, but you do not need to do anything else special to take advantage of this deal.

Who Can Claim This Deal?
The TurboTax military discount is available for all military members who are currently serving.
This includes members of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard. It also includes those serving in Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard roles.
TurboTax does not offer a discount for veterans, retired military members, or military family members at this time.
What Are The Restrictions?
The TurboTax military discount does not come with many restrictions.
You need to choose a package that is eligible for the deal (as described above) to receive money off.
Ranks E6 and up are also not eligible for the free Deluxe version, as we mentioned earlier.
