A variable pump pump pneumatic air pistol (such as a Crosman 1377 or Umarex StrikePoint) with only a few pumps and flat head pellets probably would produce enough surprise and pain (without necessarily inflicting a skin piercing wound) to make an attacker flee. After that, it has to be pumped another 3 times and reloaded to enable shooting again, ad infinitum, but it takes only about 20 seconds or less, once you're used to using it. Good luck!

Look at airsoft guns. Metal pellets can pierce flesh. The airsoft BB's will annoy and not hurt.

Basically it depends on outside temperature. The warmer it is the better. I get 40 pellet shots and 24 BB shot. This will maximize your co2. My particular shooting is 30 shots with pellets and the rest with BB's. For maximum use of co2. Plus point of aim will remain the same. That is the way I shoot my. You will note on last few shots with BB's when they shoot very low it's time to change out co2

In an open range in Mysore in India on a cloudy day I got 68 shots out of one 12gm cylinder.

I've used it twice and got 50 out of each (using Crosman Destroyer EX ... 7 gr.). Make sure to put a couple of drops of Pellgun oil on top of Co2 prior to loading.

Depends on how you fire it and what you are firing. You'll get more with bb's, fewer shots with pellets. If you rapid fire, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, the co2 will exhaust itself quicker than if you pause five to six seconds between shots. I suppose that's because the valve is open relatively long in rapid fire and there is more loss outside the firing cylinder. You should get 40 - 50 solid firings from one co2 cartridge firing carefully. I also remind you to always put drop of pell oil on cartridge tip to, (a) lubricate the o rings, seal the cartridge to the chamber and lubricate the gun as it is being fired.

I get around 40 before I can tell that it's losing velocity.

You would be better off with an air rifle, which is more accurate and has more stopping power. I would not recommend hunting with this gun unless a) you are very close to the animal, within ten feet, b) you are a very accurate shooter c) you can get a clear shot to the animals head d) you are prepared to track down the animal and kill it if you only wound it. Most birds have feathers which serve as layered armoring, a head or chest shot is mandatory.

I am 80, and love my vigilante. It feels like my practical pistol I built on my 357 combat masterpiece for competition. Now I mostly shoot bbs for less barrel wear* and use pellets for long range (50yard +) field targets. [* less contact resistance] Another tip from this old man is Marvel Mystery oil; (made for cylinders and valves). After 50 years of lots of shooting, all my guns are in better shape then myself ;-) In fact I now need another wife (only wrestlers need apply - with claw experience) since vigilante barrel latch spring is way too intense!

1. This gun is not powerful enough to humanely kill even small game. Hunting involves taking of life, therefore there are ethical issues that you need to understand before you set out. I would not try to put pellets in the BB cylinder. I think they have a slight difference in shape to hold that BB that would distort the pellet when you push it into the cylinder. This is a replica of a a real working revolver firearm. It is not a single shot spring loaded or pneumatic cocking gun. You buy CO2 cartridges to power this gun in repeater fashion.

If you are talking pump action, no, I haven't seen this gun with the pump rather than CO2. It would be kind of hard/weird to design this gun with pump action, in my opinion, but what do I know?!

You get what you pay for. It's a classic. I had one forty years ago. It shoots well enough for an entry level gun. You will want to spend more money down the road if the shooting bug bites you, or you get more serious about shooting. Don't leave it sitting in the sun outdoors with a full pierced cartridge in it. The heat may cause the gases to expand and the CO2 cartridge seating seal to blow. Happened to me!

YES it's a great target/plinking fun gun!! You only get what you pay for. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys! As CO2 pistols go, this gun is excellent value for the money, and it is very popular, it sells a lot, it gets very high reviews everywhere that I've looked. Don't expect to kill anything with it unless you're within 10ft. You got a bunch of brand name really cheap beginners guns out there around $30, then you got this around $55 - $65 so it's midprice point. It still outsells the more expensive $70 - $100 other CO2 guns like Gamo, Umarex, etc.

This is an excellent revoler. It is really better than I ever expected. A tip that work well for my gun. I shoot 30 pellets then switch to BB's point of aim will be the same. Great revolver. Definitely Recommend

I bought this gun a few months ago and I love it. I put targets on my back fence and shoot from about 50ft away. It's accurate and powerful enough to dent my wooden fence. I keep all 4 pellet clips loaded at all the times. The holster is made for left handed shooters but as some one else said. just reach across and take it out, It's a great buy for 50 bucks

I had mine for about three months and I haven't had anything wrong with it. It's is fun and so far no issues. Went out camping with it used it all weekend long.

When I got this few weeks ago the next day I wanted to get a scope and a laser. Because it has mounting brackets on the top back of the gun and up front bottom. So got a cheep red dot sight and a cheep laser to try out they work great.

Yes, I shot my last 6 shots with the daisy's BB and 4 hit the target in a low co2 charge after using 70 pellets. It works pretty well with Daisy's BB. I don't know if the BB will wear out the rifling perhaps time will tell.

I would safely recommend ten to fifteen feet if you've gotta shoot rats and small game, thirty to fifty feet for plinking and target shooting. Outside that range is anybodys guess.

I shot a little one shot bottle of sky vodka about 40 ft away and that's a small target so I'd say anywhere from 40-70 ft away

I am not sure it has enough power. Probably. I use a .177 rifle for varmints. Single shot crosman that i bought at Air Gun Depot. that is a great rifle. But, the Vigilante might do the job assuming you were at reasonably close range. Look at the fps.

While this pistol is good quality and quite accurate at 25', the handle is rather large. As a 5'8" man with average size hands, it is at the outer edge of comfortable. I would suggest you look at the Gamo PT 85 if you want pellets or the Daisy 5501 if you can settle for BBs

I thought I already answered this question, but I don't see my answer, so maybe I messed it up. Anyway, I'm a guy of average build. If the gun were much larger it would not fit comfortably in my hand. Based on how you described the girl, she may be better off with a semi auto style pistol. They are, in my limited experience, slimmer, and fit better in smaller hands. Attached are a couple of pictures that may help show the size of the Vigilante.

If you are an accurate shooter, and can get within ten to fifteen feet of the rabbits and squirrels yes. If you can't kill them on the first shot, don't shoot unless you are prepared to track down the wounded ones and put them to rest. If you really want to hunt with a pistol, you need something more powerful than most CO2 pistols, get a single shot pump up like the 1377.

I don't hunt with mine, but my feeling is that it would not be powerful enough. A rifle that shoots 700-800 ft per second would be better, imo. The Vigilante is rated at 435fps.

Pellets work the best because of a good seal in magazine. BB's work but I'd stick with pellets.

You have to load the bbs in the opposite way you load the pellets in to the ring clip then they will no longer fall out.

No it uses both pellets and bb"s in your package there should be some different holders to put in you should try one of the other ones. You should two that hold bbs and one or two that hold the pellets.

If you choose good quality BB with right size, it won't fall out, but pellet always recommended.

No, it will fire both BB's and pellets. BB's are harder to load. The cylinder loaded with pellets is much, much easier to load and fire. Pellets are slightly more expensive but unless you are shooting thousands of shots you'll hardly notice.

The gun is metal and plastic. The barrel and pistol grips are plastic, but the trigger, guard and handle are metal. So it has a nice weight and feel.

It can shoot up to 435 FPS with the right type of ammo, 383 FPS AVG. So if you are close enough you may be able to kill small rodents

I don't have the Vigilante, but the regular 357, but as far as I know specs are the same. You might get a snake with a head shot, but it won't kill a tree rat. I'd recommend a good .22 air rifle.

I sincerely believe so. It's very well designed and built. The adjustable sights are great to have and are a bargain at this price and so far has held CO2 very well between shootings.

I've not had mine for very long but it is very well made and I see no reason why it wouldn't last at least a year. That will also depend on how much it is used and how many gas cylinders are used. The most vulnerable part is the seals and as long as you follow the instructions using a single drop of air gun oil with each new cylinder your seals should last quite a while.

OK that is the $49.00 question. It appears to be light but very simple. I own several high quality up to match quality air pistols and rifles. This is light but does seem it will last for the target shooting I am doing. It is so reasonable it beats the fun vrs. cost evaluation. For under $50.00 how can you go wrong.

The Crosman 357 is about in the mid range of airguns.

I have 6 pistols that use co2 this is the quite one of the bunch. not a pop like you would expect. I think this is due to the open revolver design.

Not bad at all in my opinion. As a musician, I'm protective of my hearing maybe more than most, and I don't feel the need to wear hearing protection in the least when I'm hunting my rat population- even in closed quarters.

The loudness is minimal, No more than a 22 short.

I have not measured it but it is really relatively quiet. If you have nosey neighbors who have their windows open, they might hear it. I live in a "normal" neighborhood and so far I have not heard of any complaints. I'm always safe with it and only use it in my fenced back yard, but I'm not using it a lot every day. I'm sure it can be heard across the street or next door if someone is outside. I don't use it real early in the morning or late at night.

I've only shot it from about 25 ft but at that distance the grouping is about 3 inches around where the guns pointing.

Hi, I have owned this pistol for about a month now. I find the accuracy with pellets to be right on dead nuts accurate from a distance of 25-30 ft. BB's on the other hand with my experience are a bit high and to the left. So I just don't use BB's! A great buy for the $. I have seen complaints about leakage, however, I have had a no issues whatsoever. Just need to use pelgun oil every time you use it.

No don't even try it. You should at least use a 600+ fps gun to kill a rabbit humanely. Shoot below the eye to hit the skull for a clean painless kill.

The grips are removable, so hypothetically they could be replaced. Not sure if anyone makes custom grips though.

You first remove the grips on the gun, you open it from the bottom. Then you use the CO2 retaining tool (you see it on the bottom of the grip when you open it) by twisting it. Last, you load the CO2 and twist it tool back on tight.

Get a break barrel rifle. Not much louder, and much more powerful. Co2 pistols are not ideal for hunting.

Should work with pretty much any shape .177 pellet, I've used all kinds in mine.

The clips are reusable. You can load them with pellets or bbs and reload them after the 10 shot clip runs out. I like pellets better because the barrel is rifled and they don't ricochet off stuff like bbs. I would recommend getting 2 more sets of 3 clips so you don't have to reload clips until the co2 is out. I do get about 100 shots per co2 cartridge and have 10 clips for my gun

Hello, The clips that come with the Gun hold Pellets, not bb's, you simply refill them once you have shot them. I own 7 pellet/bb guns, and this one is the best by far. everyone who shoots favors this gun, even over the more expensive and better made guns. Highly recommend this one

These clips are refillable. I suggest using pellets, either Wadcutters or a Domed pellet. Pointed pellets have been known to jam in these guns, so any pellet that doesn't come to a point should be alright. I've really liked domed pellets, they seem to hit harder than Wadcutters.

This gun does not shoot BB's. It shoots pellets. The clips are re-useable. You just load more pellets in them when you run out of ammo.

To load the gun the barrel breaks over and the cylinder is loaded with eight pellets. To fire the gun you can pull the hammer back with your thumb (single action) or just squeeze the trigger (double action). This gun does both. I bought two for my boys and the gun is very fun to shoot. The holster is a nice touch because it can be used for other guns as well. A great buy at $50

Try checking out at the sight and if there is a restriction you will get a warning before you purchase the product. There are a lot of different regulations for all different countries and they are always changing, so we have set up an automatic warring if there is a product, based on your location, that is forbidden. Shipping price always changes, but you should be able to see the final price before you complete your purchase.

The action is very realistic, and the single-action trigger pull (force required to fire) is very similar to a real "service" revolver, although it is heavier than the pull of a target revolver. The double-action pull is also realistic, except that the "reset" spring seems too light, and sometimes I don't release the trigger far enough to pick up the next shot, which is not something I've ever experienced with powder-burning revolvers...maybe this is partly due to the lack of recoil helping to move the gun around and get your finger off the trigger. The recoil is much lighter than even a standard .22LR cartridge revolver. It might be about the same recoil as a .22 Short cartridge (which almost no one uses these days) fired in a steel-framed (heavy) revolver. There isn't really kick, but it's a pellet gun. I've noticed mine to be fairly accurate even at just over 20 yards, though farther shots can be made. It's a very entertaining gun. One cylinder of Co2 will fire about 70 rounds, so I suggest at least 7 magazines (a 3 pack is only a few bucks).

Well this is a real gun, a real airgun! Although it is an airgun, the 357 absolutely shoots like a real revolver. You can shoot it in single action (cock the hammer then pull the trigger), or you can shoot it in double action by repeatedly pullng the trigger which cocks the hammer and then releases it for the shot. The trigger pull and the stiffness of the hammer are very similar to those of a "real" revolver, making it great fun to shoot.

No, it shoots like a very accurate and well made Co2 pistol should shoot. Myself and 4 pals bought this weapon and all 5 of ours shoot about the same and we are very happy with them. We shoot at targets 16 feet away and for the money this pistol is a real bargain.

The feel is the same as the real thing but the trigger is heavier. No BIG bang and no recoil like a 357. Overall, action is not as smooth as a real Colt. What can you expect for the price though? It's great for plinking and will lay down some fairly tight groups. It's an excellent buy for the price.

Yes it does. It will fire either single or double action. Double action as fast as you can pull the trigger. Although lighter than a .real 357, it still has a nice heft to it. This is my grandsons favorite pellet pistol, and at about 25 feet he can consistently disintegrate Necco Wafers (about the size of a quarter). Have had no problems with it and would give it a thumbs up! The extra clips are a plus, and well worth it. The only problem I've had is convincing him to let me shoot it too.

Pretty close. The grips are a little cheap feeling compared to a real gun. When you first start shooting it with a fresh Co2 cartridge, it has a nice pop and a little kick. As the Co2 gets to about half way it feels more like a BB gun. The look is very realistic. For the price, I don't think you can do any better.

Sorry, but I don't have any firearm experience. I'm new to these BB guns and pellet guns. All I can say is the gun is heavy and huge to someone like myself who has never used a real firearm before. The Crosman 357 Co2 Air Pistol is in fact a real gun by definition. But I get your question, it does have the look and even feel of a "real" pistol and in many ways, yes it does. The sighting is the same and easily adjustable. It does not have the recoil of a firearm but don't let that fool you. This is definitely not a toy and should be given all the respect of any firearm. The 357 is a great Co2 pistol and extremely high quality especially for the price! I would definitely recommend it and in fact, planning on purchasing another. This next one will be for my son.

Are you sure you have the clip in correctly? The center part has a slightly geared notching and should point towards the cylinder and not the barrel.

I have put over 1000 rounds through mine and haven't had a problem, and it seems to be worth the money. I can shoot inside a nickel 4 out of 5 at 10 yards. Just oil the gun like it says, Rem oil works fine.

Up to a 100, if you shoot at an average pace. The faster you shoot, the colder the Co2 cartridge gets meaning less pressure. The last 30-40 shots though aren't that powerful but still fun enough to shoot targets with at close range instead of wasting the Co2.

Initially I was concerned that the magazine seemed a little loose and thought there might be issues with the rounds lineing up with the bore. Those concerns were put to rest after loading it up and the first test fire. All 10 shots fired clean and in a tight group at a 25' paper target. I would suggest getting out some white or orange paint to tip the front sight because the flat black on black slows down the sighting at a dark target. I find that edging the inside of the rear and a small center stripe on the front speeds up the sighting considerably. I used the old soup can method to test penitration and was impressed with the results. The regular copper plated steel BB tore through one side and still put a signicant dent on the back side of the can. The soft lead and tipped pellets, being much softer, had a lot more "impact" on the can but not as much penatration as expected but have no doubt that it has all the knock down power needed. Meaning that I made a lot of trips to set the can back up after the shot. So back to the "will it kill varmits" question, I have no doubt it will do the job.

The barrel is long enough to hold steady with your free hand to assure greater accuracy. I love this gun, and use it strictly for squirrels. I am a senior, and as such, my hands are not as steady as they were once, so I miss a lot, which gives me a chance to squeeze off several shots just for the fun of it. If you miss the squirrel, he will jump. Be ready, fire, you have enough pellets to possibly catch him on the run. Great fun gun.

I only use the pistol for target plinking and do not shoot at varmints but the pistol certainly seems to have the co2 power and accuracy to do serious damage to small animals if correct hunting pellets (pointed, hollow or round faced) are used.
