An Army M1 Armor Crewman is prepared to defend the United States anywhere in the world.

The Army would not work nearly as functionally if it weren’t for the role of 19K MOS and other members of the tank and armor units.

In order to become MOS 19K, you will need to complete the necessary education, requirements, and training.

Education

The United States Army has some general requirements for enlistment.

The biggest thing you need to do from an educational standpoint is finish high school with a diploma or receive a GED equivalent.

Once you speak to an Army recruiter, they will tell you more about the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

The series of tests are used to determine which Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) is best suited for your strengths.

If you wish to become an Army M1 Armor Crewman (MOS 19K), you will need to complete a score of Combat (CO): 87 on the ASVAB.

Qualifications

In order to become an M1 Armor Crewman, you must have normal color vision.

The eye test will also need to show that you have 20/20 correctable vision in one eye and 20/100 correctable vision in the other eye.

Additionally, you must be able to move comfortably in the tank, so you cannot be taller than a height of 6’1″ to remain considered for MOS 19K.

Training

After you pass the necessary education and requirements for 19K MOS, it is time to advance into training.

All Army recruits begin boot camp, or Basic Combat Training (BCT), for at least 10 weeks.

MOS Army M1 Armor Crewman training combines Basic Combat Training with One Station Unit Training (OSUT).

The two types of training are combined and require 22 weeks of your time.

Training is a combination of field-simulated combat as well as classroom learning.

You will learn more about tank operations, armor offensive and defensive tactics, and field combat strategy.

Tank Operation
